Lumen’s Mission Is to Support Your Mission
I’ve worked with federal government agencies for most of my career. One of the things that always struck me about the people I work with is the way they want to use technology to connect the present to the future.
When we talk about modernizing networks or moving IT workloads to the cloud, the goal behind those efforts is to enhance an agency’s operations so it can better enable and carry out the mission into the future.
That’s why I think Lumen and the federal government are made for each other. Launching the Lumen brand acknowledges that the conversations we’re having are changing.
IT infrastructure is still part of that conversation, of course. Let’s be clear: it’s the same great technology and the same great people. But, the discussion increasingly starts with a mission-level problem or a challenge to address.
Our teams work tirelessly to understand our customers’ issues. This starting point allows us to roll up our sleeves and think through the best solution to the problem together.
Removing barriers, supporting missions
For instance, we recently worked with a cabinet-level department on a major IT project. The department is highly decentralized with tens of thousands of employees across the nation, often in remote locations.
The goals involved helping this decentralized agency operate more seamlessly as one unit. That meant removing barriers to information access from any point in the network. When workers travel from one outpost to another, they should be able to authenticate and get access to the services they need to do the job. Obviously, it all must be secure, but making it possible for the organization to work efficiently under one umbrella was the starting point.
From there, we were able to work through the agency’s Wi-Fi, LAN and WAN needs and focus on the right security approach, especially for how they interface with the public. We were also able to build out a transition plan that included managing the whole process so the internal IT people could stay focused on the mission.
That’s truly a great example of what Lumen is all about and how we are committed to meeting the needs of public sector organizations.
To the future
The future will not be built on just one technology. Many technologies are involved today and even more are coming in the future. Because of that diversity of approaches, many IT infrastructure choices could be made. Which one is the right one for your mission and how that mission will evolve in the coming years?
Our experts can help you connect the present to the future through our approach that we call the platform for amazing things. The Lumen platform for data and applications is designed for the 4th Industrial Revolution and encompasses:
- Connected security
- Edge cloud
- Adaptive networking
- Communications and collaboration
Our platform enables our experts to architect your solution and prepare to manage it into the future. We put the right resources in the right place to optimize your network performance and reduce latency. Most cloud data centers are already connected to our fiber optic network.
Today, we are actively extending cloud capabilities further into the broader network at the edge, closer to where action needs to take place. We can implement zero-trust security architecture, so your users can seamlessly connect to your network regardless of the access methodology. We’re also making it easier to interact with you through application programming interfaces (APIs) that enable us to respond to your needs even faster.
Lumen is a new brand from a company with a long history of supporting agency missions. We look forward to seeing you there virtually and we look forward to helping you extend your mission well into the future.
