A Stable Network Allows Alphabroder to Put Customers First

You may know alphabroder as a leading supplier of wholesale apparel, promotional products, and imprintable goods. The company’s previous MPLS infrastructure was somewhat antiquated, limiting the team and leading to bottlenecks. The team was putting out fires instead of making business improvements, and they couldn’t deliver on their promise of offering value to their customers.

That was a huge problem for alphabroder, who pride themselves on offering their clients a sense of trust. The customer experience is one of their core business philosophies.

“It’s always ‘customers first’,” said Ted Dayno, Senior Network Engineer for alphabroder. “That really relies on the IT services, which translates to better service for our customers.”

With multiple distribution centers across North America, connectivity is key to quality customer service. Strong connectivity between their distribution and data centers ensures they can help customers with their online stores. A network that can’t support customers, then, negatively impacts the business.

“If our website is down due to a network issue or other IT services issue, it affects the sales and the bottom line, because they could just go to the next website and order there,” said Dayno.

Moving away from MPLS infrastructure

Initially, alphabroder partnered with Lumen because they provided better value than their competitors and offered an easy implementation plan to improve alphabroder’s WAN connectivity. In their most recent project, alphabroder looked to modernize their network with Lumen® Dedicated Internet Access (DIA).

Quotation reading: “Providing a stable WAN connectivity was huge for us. Now, moving forward with the cloud services, we can pivot and move away from legacy MPLS infrastructure to a SD-WAN solution through DIA. That’s really helped us with keeping the cost down while still providing good network performance.”

In addition to increased stability, they can optimize bandwidth while gaining visibility into their environment.

Reducing connectivity costs by 20%

Using products from the Lumen portfolio, alphabroder cut connectivity costs by 20%. Uptime for their website has been “great,” and they can access applications more quickly and with less latency.

“We do have redundant infrastructure, but most of the time, with Lumen as the primary connection, we rarely need that backup solution,” Dayno said. Because the number of outages is minimal, they can run the business without disruptions, ensuring the team can consistently provide excellent customer service.

Quotation reading: “Lumen really makes managing multiple services across different distribution centers easy. Rather than handling accounts and services, we can focus on improving the network and business growth.”
